Sarah Barr:
Physical Therapy
Assistant

Sarah Barr of Vermillion is earning an associate of applied science, physical therapist assistant program. Barr, 22, chose LCCC because it was "an affordable opportunity with the exact degree" she wanted to pursue.

Here's what Barr had to say about her future and how LCCC is helping her achieve her career goals.

Q: What are your future career plans?

I intend to go to Cleveland State University to further my education and receive a bachelors degree. In the mean time, find a job where I can utilize my degree and license. I want to be the best PTA I can be.

Q: How has LCCC helped you meet your goals?

LCCC has helped me reach my academic, professional, and personal goals. Professionally, I have learned what it takes to be a good leader and successful communicator. Without the help from my peers and professors, I wouldn’t be the leader I am. I have been offered great opportunities to further my goals and find what suits my skills the best through LCCC.

Q: What barriers did you overcome to earn your degree?

The most difficult part in earning my degree has been balancing my personal life and academic responsibilities. Not only was it hard to maintain a good balance, but also ensuring I was financially secure throughout the process. With good time management and dedication to my academic career, I was able to push through the barriers.

Q: Did any LCCC faculty and/or staff help you along the way?

Dr. Carrie Firmanty and Dr. Carrie Chapman have been the most helpful. I not only had them as great professors, but mentors as well. They have been the greatest help regarding my academic journey and professional journey.

Q: How did LCCC help you unlock opportunities?

Being a part of the PTA program at LCCC has unlocked many opportunities for me. Getting the opportunity to work in 3 different clinical settings, attending leadership conferences, and giving back to the community have allowed been amazing opportunities that I would not have without being a part of LCCC.
